We don't We upgrade to Windows XP SP2. The fact is that Firefox, Apple, Linux and all OSes also have problems. Those that don't think so are ignorant of the facts and are usually not that bright.

It sounds like whoever the 'SO' is, hooked up to DSL without a firewall which is like driving through Harlem at midnight waving a wad of bills around.ROFL!!!
That is a great description.

Add Firefox and Thunderbird and you'll really be garbage-free.
I've been running IE until last December. I switched because of people's claims I've seen here and on other boards.
For the first time in years, I have spyware and tracking cookies on my computer. I didn't have any with IE. I have stuff showing up in the registry I didn't download or install. No virus, it's coming in through Firefox.
I've also noticed when I have a few tabs open, I can control the website in a different tab than the one I'm viewing. It seems like Firefox opens several websites and holds them collectively while only showing me one (in a tab). I've been told to never make a secure transaction with Firefox while having two or more tabs open.
Firefox also doesn't keep it's settings. Think I read they are correcting this in FF1.1 Hope they also give some better cookie control, IE is far better about cookies than Firefox currently is.
Bottom line: I don't trust the Firefox browser for anything 'secure'.

That may be true...if your car is delivered to you with 4 underinflated baldino tires....a cracked frame where the steering box attaches to it, blown out tie-rod ends...and smokes more than a 1970's era mobile DDT bug-sprayer in a low land marsh.
you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

No, more like driving a new Ford, having the boyz in the 'hood
shoot it full of holes with a drive-by, then blaming Ford for the bullet holes.

IMO Hackers are just doing what a lot of people (And a President) do - They do it "Because they can".What about the comment on the President?
What's your gripe there?

Why do people blame Windows? If they had half a brain, they would learn how to protect against viruses, browser hijackers and spyware. Most people don't even update their files, so they get what they deserve. They also don't know about alternatives to Windows, Internet Explorer or Outlook/Outlook Express because they are lazy. If the Law started taking such vandalism seriously, or enough owners started hunting down the perps and dispensing justice, they would not have to.
OK, I'll stop this post to allow the Mac/Betamax True Believers swarm the thread now, as usual, with their missionary zeal.

"Despite the EULA that is built like a fortress and Corporate practices that make Genghis Khan look like a choirboy, Microsoft is fast nearing the end of the time when they can foist obviously flawed and architecturally creaky software on a captive market (As this article evidences).
In a just world, Microsoft would have had their A$$es sued of and been required to move aside and let innovation and competition exist. In the 'Real World' they have taken their initial advantage and turned it into a Dictatorship of the Marketplace. Fortunately, the dike is springing a few leaks and MS may not have enough fingers to plug them all."
Yeah right. There are more virus et al for Windows because it has by far the most installed users out there. Most virus writers want fame and spam/spy ware writers wont more PC's so they target Windows. They dont bother with you and your 3 friends who run Linux :)
When someone creates an OS and Office Suite and Visio/Project like app that I can install on my computer in under 30 minutes without having to search up drivers, patches, fixes or other software. Also that are totally interoperable I will buy it. Oh yeah and do it all for under $1000.
Just my opinion to each his own. ;-)

This machine is a stand alone and not connected to the net.Now that is smart!
Keep Windows off the internet, get a sec ond machine and don't keep important stuff on it...run Linux ,...try Aandros...does the internet with Firefox real well! Very simple to set up on a dedicated machine....

Someday when I can't play golf or drink anymore, I'm going to buy a Mac with the money I save. I hope all you people are right and this is the best thing since sliced bread.

And you don't need to be calling names, either.
I don't, despite the fact that I strongly disagree with the entire Windows "thing".
