Historical revisionism is one of the favorite pastimes of the Islamic crowd. To them, it is important that that claim land for Islam, and make it part of the "Darul Islam" forever, and gives future generations of Jihadis an excuse to fight and murder over the claimed territory in the quest for Islamic expansion.

Anything like former non-Islamic history weakens their claim, so they try to diminish it's importance or ignore it entirely.
