This procedure is called metzitzah ba'peh and it has been part of the ritual of brit milah for thousands of years. It is derived from the old practice of sucking poison out of a wound and is actually less painful for the infant than using an instrument.

My six sons and nine grandsons were all circumcised by qualified mohelim using this procedure.

That said, this Rabbi Pischer should not have been performing milah with an open sore and should be prosecuted, sued, and banned from ever attending another bris.

I googled that and all that comes up is trash websites. Is there a book that documents this procedure's history?

Thanks for the information--I was wondering if the procedure was on the level.

Sure am glad I restrained from posting the corny jokes swimming around in my head; I truly would be hanging my head in shame right now.

I agree with your sentiments regarding the Rabbi.
