The Iraqi people have lived under conditions that we can't imagine in our worst nightmares. Neighbors turned against neighbor. WOmen stolen off the streets to satisfy Saddam's sons. Liberal groups who visited Iraq in the 90's wrote and the Washington Post reported that over 5,000 women and children died of torture and starvation alone in Iraq. These are not natural deaths.

When people have been forced to live like that for over 35 years, it is no wonder they are frightened, disoriented, and unable to stand up for themselves.

As well, we disappointed them once before and they were uncertain if we would do it again.

I too got frustrated occasionally with how slowly they seemed to rouse themselves from their national nightmare and realize they had to fight for their survival. But I believe they are doing it now and I am glad of it.

We can't compare how we would react here in this country...it's comparing apples and oranges.

It just kills me the Dems somehow think we can go topple a dictator and train an army/police force and establish a secure democracy in Iraq in less time than it takes to finish college.
