It will be interesting to see Islam's Protestant Reformation. Innovation, enlightenment, and any "reform" is going to run into some fierce resistance, because of the concept of BIDAH!

Islam is already throughly "Protestantized" into many fragmented segments. Shiite and Sunni are only the two main branches. The Caliphate was abolished by Kemel Ataturk in the early 1920's. There's been no Islamic "pope-emperor" since then.
