OSLO (Reuters) - World temperatures could surge in just two decades to a threshold likely to trigger dangerous disruptions to the earth's climate, the WWF environmental group said on Sunday.
It said the Arctic region was warming fastest, threatening the livelihoods of indigenous hunters by thawing the polar ice-cap and driving species like polar bears toward extinction by the end of the century.
"If nothing is done, the earth will have warmed by 2.0 Celsius (3.6 Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels by some time between 2026 and 2060," the WWF said in a report.
Few scientists have estimated such an early date for a 2.0C rise, seen by the WWF as a threshold that may spur "dangerous" warming, raising sea levels and causing more floods, storms or droughts and driving some species to extinction.

Here's my favorite paragraph of the article:
"At some point, some scientists fear that rising temperatures could cause a runaway warming, for instance by melting permafrost in Siberia that could in turn release deposits of heat-trapping methane to the atmosphere." (my emphasis)

I hope it starts sooner, we have been below freezing here for 3 weeks.
I am tired of shoveling the global warming from my driveway..

Not to worry! Nuclear winter will offset global warming. in any case, doesn't an old Mayan prophecy say the world will end on the eve of Festivus 2012?

The WWF need to replace their logo of the Panda with one featuring a squawking chicken!

Assuming that the WWF is a political rather than science group. Wonder if they have considered that the world temp has been virtually unchanged for 100 years, and has been falling for 30?

Of course not, they couldn't have fundraising events to pay their huge salaries if they admitted that.

What about the MIT study that proves all global warm models that contain a "hockey stick" curve are seriously flawed. Fundraising and economic control is at the root of the entire global warming con.
BTW who decides what is the optimal temp for the earth? Is it now? How about now? Maybe now..... Was it then or is it tomorrow?

"BTW who decides what is the optimal temp for the earth? Is it now? How about now? Maybe now..... Was it then or is it tomorrow?" Agreed that the idea of making such a decision is in keeping with the "central planning" method of thinking endecmic in the Left. But the truth is that earth's climate is not a constant, never has been, the temperature has risen and fallen over the years without the help of capitalists or socialists and will continue rising and falling.

Man, there is some series money being made by those guys. I'm slightly shocked, though I guess I shouldn't be. It seems unseemly for socialists to be running such a scam just for financial gain.
I read the rest of the article, only one "expert" was quoted, with no credentials given.
BTW, your name is a little controversial for us here in Miami.
Also, Drudge is a dork.

Let's hope not. It does take alot of imagination to come up with a new gimmick submission hold with a name like that.

So is Bill Gates. I just credit him if I find an article on his site...
