Dad's A Real Stunner Florida man arrested for using shocking discipline on son, 14 JANUARY 27--Meet Douglas Dycus. The 40-year-old Florida man was charged yesterday with felony child abuse and domestic battery for allegedly using a stun gun to discipline his 14-year-old son. Dycus, an engineer with a Palm Beach firm, admitted to cops that he used the electrical device on the boy when the child was wrestling with a brother and holding up the family's departure from their home last month. Instead of pulling the boys apart, Dycus--who said the children were "not listening"--went to his dresser drawer and pulled out the stun gun, which he used to zap his son on the arm. The child let out a scream and then "got into the vehicle," according to a Martin County Sheriff's Office report. The victim told a child welfare investigator that Dycus shocked him twice, pointing to marks the device left on his arm and abdomen. The stun gun was recovered from Dycus's Palm City home after sheriff's investigators filed the below search warrant affidavit. (3 pages)

Stun guns make excellent dog training tools also. When my dogs get rowdy all I have to do anymore is just pick it up and show it to them, they instantly behave. Mine is 500,000 volts and whe you push the button it makes an arc about an inch long between the probes, talk about getting Zotted, you can smell the ozone.

Well, that's why we have so many problem kids and young adults now. Because parents are so afraid to discipline their kids that the kids turn wild and irresponsible.

People should be able to discipline without the law stepping in all the time. I'm all for stopping any form of child abuse, but this just doesn't seem to be abuse.

I remember as a kid on the ranch running around with firends having "Hot Shot" wars. Hot Shots are cattle prodes. They come in several varieties but some of the larger ones hurt like a Son of gun! They made your arm or leg go numb when hit with it. We also had BB gun wars. Ahhh those were the days... :-)

Felony charges against a guy for shocking his own son, and yet police continue to taser kids as little as 6. Felony charges against the police? Nope. Parental responsibility? Nope, against the law.

I can't help but wonder what the long term affect on the brain is from these shocks. I was with a lady who had a "shock collar" on her dog to keep him from pulling on the leash. As we were talking, the dog went into a seizure. She said that her dog had recently started having these seizures, and she didn't know what to do about them.

Cause and affect? I have no idea--but I have been wondering about this for a long time, and it seemed to me that the shocks from the collar could be causing the seizures.

When my 3 biggest boys were small, I used to joke about needing a cattle prod to get the three of them into bed at night.

When my oldest son was in 4th grade, I go to his parent-teacher conference and get confronted by his older than dirt teacher. "Mrs.T, why does Kristian want a cattle prod for Christmas?"

Seems my "quiet" child had decided to have a joke on his old mom and told the teacher that he wanted the cattle prod so his mom would be able to get him into bed at night. So, here I was, defending my self to this teacher, did I mention she was older than dirt, who had no sense of humor.

Obviously, this has become one of our "family" stories, along with that of Dan glue someone to their seat on the school bus, and Josh painted a fellow classmate orange in art class.
