That's just how you choose to frame it in order to marginalize those who don't react to these things as you think they should.

Perhaps you didn't notice that what I wrote was precisely modeled on what YOU wrote, done so to point out that's just how you choose to frame it in order to marginalize those who don't react to these things as you think they should.

I noticed you did it twice now. I though it was just out of an utter lack of originality.

Shouldn't be surprising that someone that distraught might drive around a while before finally building up the nerve to play chicken with a train.

Some official info on location of where the car and train collided. This is from the L.A. Daily News:

Looking south from the intersection of W. Chevy Chase Dr. and Alger St., police officers, and other investigators look for fragments of wreckage that may include a Jeep Cherokee.

Photo of the intersection, which shows that the tracks were recessed into the pavement on that street.

So far from home? I drive twice that distance just to get to work every day. 24 miles isn't far.

Me too. No word, although the caption did say he was rescued.

Exactly as I had remembered it.

Looking at the intersection, there is no doubt whatsoever that, in order for the Jeep to get hung up on the tracks, the driver would have had to have deliberately left the road.

50 minutes seems like an awful long drive unless you have a very specific reason for going there.

There is no indication he was going there in particular. More likely he was just driving around for a while - severly depressed - and finally decided to do himself in when he happened along that location.

In the bottom photo: Assuming this is looking southward: The light colored quasi rectangle on the tracks near the left middle edge of the photo may be the wreckage. There is the grey form of a large building just to the right of that, I believe that's the Costco. Hills off in the distance would be the eastern outliers of the Hollywood Hills.

They say they SHOULD be able to release his name "shortly"

Any pictures? I got stuck back at post 200 and don't have time to read the whole thread. This is absolutely tragic. If the guy changed his mind, why in the H didn't he move the damn car? What a pinhead... (or raghead, as the case may be)....

One wire news reported that the PERP had an arrest record for DRUGS.

Arrest Record for Drugs--Compton--Hispanic. Do the math. How many steps, combined with the hesitancy of the police or media to release the perp's photo a number of hours later...are we nearing that sacrosanct, sensitive territory known as "political correctness", i.e. stretching out and delaying any news that might report he is an illegal alien so as to not upset the general public?

I'm beginning to have my doubts.

"El hombre suicida, identificado como Juan Manuel Alvarez, de 26 años y de Compton, se quedó parado al lado de su vehículo cuando el tren llegó y chocó, dijo Adams. Alvarez también había tratado de cortarse las venas, dijeron las autoridades. " -- From La Opinion today....FYI

Translated by babelfish:

"The suicidal man, identified like Juan Manuel Alvarez, of 26 years and Compton, remained unemployed next to his vehicle when the train arrived and hit, said Adams. Alvarez also had tried to cut the veins, said the authorities."
