Prayer vigil for the Iraqi elections
Vanity | JustaCowgirl

Posted on 01/26/2005 4:46:56 AM PST by JustaCowgirl

We invite and request your prayers every day this week for the Iraqi elections on Sunday. This is a pivotal event in World history, and a vitally important one for our country and administration as well. Please pray for the safety of all those, including our brave military, who are putting themselves at risk to make this election happen.

Pray for a huge turnout, and that Iraqi voters are kept safe from those who would intimidate and frighten in order to perpetuate their evil.

I feel absolutely certain that our President is praying about this event and for his brave soldiers daily. While he probably would not choose to call publicly for prayer, I feel that he would be overjoyed and strengthened to have Americans and people of faith all over the world join him in this.

Please pass this along to others that you know who would like to informally join us in this prayer vigil.

Hmmm. . . I wonder if someone will do a live thread on election day?

Errrr.....ummmm....you have somebody particular in mind? ;-)

All I'll really be able to report is activity on the base here. Of course, we're not allowed out there where all the action is. (Praying for NO action on the 30th.) I can tell you now that I have never seen security so tight in the 13 months I've been here. Yeeeeeesh! We're already sick of having to wear the turtle suits outside all the time, but then we expected it.

Air activity is way up and also as we expected, we're hearing more than the usual number of explosions.

Other than that, it's just another day at the office. So far.

Lord, we ask for your protection over our troops in harm's way. Lord, they are in your care. We pray for their safe return. As they face monumental challenges and decisions each moment, may they be anchored by their faith, protected by your presence, and comforted in knowing that they are loved by you. Amen

I will be praying for these people and their safety. The terrorists will not be victorious, but they could cause alot of havoc on their way out.

It is in God's hands.

Cover our Military and the Iraqi people with a Divine Blanket of Protection, Hindering and Thwarting the Actions of sinful men. Grant a Huge and Fervent Turnout, my King, that a Strong Message will be Sent to the Terrorists, and Great Fear to Bin Laden and Zarqawi.

Amen, Kitty Mittens. May your prayer be heard in Heaven.

"Consumer Christianity"

Read: Luke 9:18-26

If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. —Luke 9:23

Bible In One Year: Job 38-42

In his book The Empty Church, historian Thomas C. Reeves says: "Christianity in modern America . . . tends to be easy, upbeat, convenient, and compatible. It does not require self-sacrifice, discipline, humility, an otherworldly outlook, a zeal for souls, a fear as well as love of God. There is little guilt and no punishment, and the payoff in heaven is virtually certain. What we now have might best be labeled 'Consumer Christianity.' The cost is low and customer satisfaction seems guaranteed."

If we were only customers of Almighty God, we could be selective in our faith and reject anything we didn't like. But that's not an idea we get from Jesus. He pointed us to a cross, not to a spiritual check-out counter. He said: "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it" (Luke 9:23-24). Christ died on a cross for our sins, not for our satisfaction. And He calls us to trust in Him, then follow Him with a life of self-denial.

In a world where the customer is always right, it takes radical obedience to God to keep from buying into "Consumer Christianity." —David McCasland

When Jesus said to follow Him
Regardless of the cost,
He promised He would surely give
Much more than would be lost. —Sper

Following Jesus is not always easy, but it's always right.
