A Day in the Life of President Bush (photos): 1.24.05

A culture of life for America got a big boost from President Bush as he addressed, from Camp David by telephone, pro-life demonstrators in DC marking the 32nd anniversary of Roe v. Wade. He told abortion opponents he shared their support for 'a culture of life' and lauded progress in passing legislation to protect the vulnerable.

Presidents Bush and Chirac plan to have dinner in Europe next month. The president is also planning to host Chirac in the United States sometime soon. Bush plans to stop in Germany, and to meet with Russia's Putin in the Slovak Republic during his visit to Europe.

The Bush administration plans to announce it will seek about $80 billion in new funding for military operations this year in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife, Lynne, will lead a US delegation to Poland for observances marking the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camps. Cheney will tour Auschwitz, honor Holocaust survivors, speak at the international forum, meet with Poland's President Kwasniewski, Poland's PM Belka, and Ukraine's President Yushchenko.

Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island!

I listened to President Bush's message to the crowd today, and it was great. A no nonsense explanation of where we are today in the struggle to defend the unborn

Hi Mike.

The text of Bush's remarks is posted here http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1327615/posts?page=74#74 at #74.

There is a big prayer focus on "Roe v. Wade" being overturned, now through March 1, by some national prayer ministries who are targeting this.

It's awesome that the woman who was "Roe" is filing suit at this time to have the USSC decision vacated because it is now a wrong verdict -- at least part of the evidence being the hundreds of documented reports of the damage done to women who've had abortions (not necessarily medical / physical damage).

Back from soccer. Daughter's team won. :o)

Yes, Gretchen, I understood what you meant in the "theatre/stage" mix-up. The problem is that BOTH are theatre, but only one is stage.

Surround sound is extremely important, especially when the chandelier starts to rise and the BAHMMMMMMM....bum. bum. bum BAHMMMMMMMM music starts. Quite thrilling!

I hope you have a lovely time seeing it again with your son. It is not operatic, but it IS, in the sung dialogue and ensemble singing, arias and duets. Lloyd Webber obviously studied his Mozart when he was in school. :o)

Oh, kitkat, do you know how much it thrills my heart that ANYone else thinks of Nelson Eddy ANY time??

I think the reason you think of him may be that Nelson and Jeanette absolutely perfected the art of romantic movie musical duet singing. They will never be surpassed by anyone, ever in the sheer perfection of their art.

One thing I noticed (picky person that I am) was that the lip syncing, which Nelson and Jeanette did flawlessly, was not quite so flawless even in this wonderful production.

I guess you just can't get better than perfect, eh?

As an interesting side note (to me anyway)........after N&J stopped making musicals, there was a switch to the "buddy" musical........Gene Kelly & Fred Astair type musicals.

There was nowhere to go but down in the area of romance, so they just didn't try.

Nothing since has ever reached the heights of the MGM musical with Nelson and Jeanette.

(Is that more info and opinion than you wanted? LOL!)

Excellent! All I have to do is think of it in the opposite way that it makes sense to me, and I get it right!

Our Dubya said, "Pray that I will be a Godly Husband, a Godly Father, and a Godly Leader."

I echo your praise, Kitty, that we have a President whose priorities are exactly right.

He is doing incredible things as President because he is 'plugged in' to the source of all strength and wisdom.

We must maintain a strong prayer support for him in the next four years!

"Back from soccer. Daughter's team won. :o)"

WOO HOO, Congrats

Yesterday I took my grandson to the "Pine Derby Races" held by the Cub Scouts & Boy Scouts, I helped him build his car. I custom painted it with 5 colors, made a roll cage and drag pipes out of a coat hanger. He ran in 4 heats races and placed 3rd once, 2nd twice and 1st once, and was overall winner in his class :-)

Both Grandson and Grand Daddy had a great time :-)

Oh, that sounds WONDERFUL, Mike! Good job, Grand Daddy!

When I was a kid, I wanted to build a soap box derby car REAL bad (the race was in nearby Akron)........but I was a girl, and it was the '50's..........

About daughter's soccer games. These indoor games are in Cleveland, more than an hour away. More than two hours drive for a one hour game.

We'd better get rewarded some day for these parental sacrifices. ;o)

The Pine Derby is a block of wood, 4 axles and 4 wheels that weigh about 4 ounces and by the time your done carving on it and adding ornaments, it must weigh 5 ounces. Soap Box Derby's are much more involved, I'm looking forward to helping my two grandson's with their's when their older. Their Daddy would do it if he wasn't "Power Tool" and "Mechanically" challenged :-)

On September 11 as the horror was unfolding, did you have any concerns, being in Canada, that something might happen there? Or did it feel or seem like the attack was going to stay south of the border?

kitkat...........there's something else I just thought of that would bring Nelson to mind when you hear that song. It's intensity.

"All I ask of You" is, IMO, the most intensely emotional romantic duet since the days of N&J. There was an intensity, a sexuality, to their duets (best example "Wanting You" in New Moon) that has never been matched since.

Howard Keel and Katherine Grayson did duets together, but nothing on the level of what N&J did, and without the chemistry.

"All I ask of You" HAS that intense, rip your heart out kind of quality that hasn't really been done in 50 plus years.

I think that's it.

"Power Tool" and "Mechanically Challenged" LOL! (Sounds like my dad!)

So those are simpler type cars? For younger kids?

How old are your grandkids now?

Oh......and yes. I got your freepmail (sorry I didn't get back to you......I was in and out a lot today).

I anxiously await your gift! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!

I just wanted to say that I think it is great that your grandson is in cub scouts. I am an Eagle scout myself, and I acted as an Assistant scout master for my troop, before I left for college and moved away. I still go back to take the older boys on high adventure trips (like canoeing in the Boundary Waters, or Backpacking/Hiking in the mountains). It is a good program with good values.
