Is such remark correct? Do Americans now have to shut their mouths out of fear for their lives? Do political enemies start to disappear one by one? Do police come to your house after a foreigner visited you, asking who the guest was?
No, they do not ask who the guest was. They break the door down, enter with military tactics, and shoot anyone that resists. They scream "Police" yet wear black clothes, hoods, and carry no warrant. Never fear, they have neat letters on their back that say "ATF" "FBI" "Marshall" or in some really fun filled events "security". Many people set others up in order to lighten their own burden. May you never have occasion to be enlightened by personal experience.
No.
But like East Germany, vast databases are being compiled on even those who are considered law-abiding. Monitoring is becoming more pervasive and more robust. Police are now allowed to secretly enter your home and/or your computer ... something that was not permitted until recently. An American citizen may be held indefinitely without charges being leveled against him.
Sounds very East German to me.
