President and Mrs. Bush visited the National Archives to view some of our nation's founding documents.
In spite of some Senators Behaving Badly (particularly John Kerry and Barbara Boxer), the Senate Foreign Relations Committee voted Wednesday to confirm Condoleezza Rice as secretary of state; the nomination now goes to the full Senate for a vote.
Enjoy your visit to Sanity Island: one day to go till W2!
Yes, that dress is just lovely, and a little different. Luscious color.
The girls' dresses are nice, but nothing special. Jenna's dress is kind of cute.
"If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you." 1 Peter 4:14
I think it is so cool that you get FNC. What kind of company do you work for? Was wondering what was getting shipped to Germany? Hope you get home in time to share this historical day with us.
I got an invitation also... wish I could actually go, but probably see more on tv.
I'll go over to the church tomorrow and get all the linens which are looking a little dingy.
Wash them really good and stand at my ironing board for an hour ironing them.
Surely those good works will attone for a day off!
I had to get off the Black tie & books thread. Some show off kept criticizing the dresses to illustrate what a fashion maven she is.
Grrr.
I loved Laura's dress ... you had to see it from the side to get the full effect. Absolutely stunning.
Yep, I warned my husband a week ago that this day was sacred. And I do believe my daughter in ST Louis who I just talked to on the phone thinks I'm crazy.
4integrity, watch for the only band from Louisiana in the parade & give out one of your cheers. They are from my neck of the woods.
I do not have cable so I can't see any of that but thanks for sharing about it. Laura is just such a lady by every meaning of the word.
Secret Service
From the limited photos I've seen I agree it is stunning.
Nana, I will surely let out a BIG WHOOP and a great YEE Hah for the band from your neck of the woods!! I am just so full of pride for our great President, I can't wait till tomorrow.
I haven't seen Laura wear anything that looked bad in I don't know how long. Some outfits I like better than others. But I'm no fashion maven, that's for sure. I do pay attention, that's part of the fun of being a current events watcher!
I think Laura's clothing styles have gotten MUCH more beautiful and flattering over the last four years. Plus she has lost weight and is in such great shape, she looks beautiful in her outfits too.
Tomorrow is going to be so much fun. I'll be sitting on my couch in complete comfort and having a window to watch American history being made. Who could ask for more than that?
If you find it, do you promise to not post it on this thread?
We are enjoying four more years of Dubya and certainly don't need to see a picture of the bloated one. Thank you in advance.
The criticisms on that thread were just uncalled for. I thought Laura's dress was beautiful and what's more, she looked gorgeous in it. Very western looking, buttons instead of bows. A great choice for the Boots Ball.
NOooo! You can't be ironing during the inaugural! I hereby absolve you of any sin of taking the day off for W. I just know the good Lord approves.
I believe Liz Cheney has three little girls and her baby boy was a newborn at the time of the election -- I remember her holding him on the stage at the Reagan Building the day after the election -- so I'm thinking this is the youngest granddaughter sitting with the VP?
I love the Gatlins. I've been fortunate to see them in concert a couple times during the President's first term...they usually work in some good political jokes :). They are great performers...what's really amazing is that Larry wrote the words and music for all their hits. A brilliant man.
Exactly!
Mrs. Bush is a role model for role models. I'm so glad for all the reasons that she had to eat her words about not wanting to give speeches. Her public image is a major plus to the nation. She is the consummate first Lady, though I understand she isn't fond of that term. Humility is just one of her many strong suits.
I love to know some specifics about it but I assume that is top secret. I bet it doesn't break any MPG records. Probably somewhere close to an open wheel Indy car but oh so heavier..
