Controlling the population, protecting your home and property, fine.

Turning killing anything into a game, yes, I'm offended.

If they need to be killed anyway, why can't it be fun?

"Turning killing anything into a game, yes, I'm offended."

Hunting contests have been around for a long time and for some people they are fun. So what? Your problem isn't really that the coyotes are being killed, but because someone is enjoying themselves while doing it. Get over it.

*ALL* hunters and fishermen enjoy hunting and it *IS* a game to them. That's why we don't do our 'hunting' at the grocery store.

I haven't hunted for a long time but I did enjoy tracking one particular turkey for two days until I finally caught up to him and got him. In that time I also passed over several other turkeys I could've easily bagged.

But that wasn't the point, I was going after the guy who was more crafty and challenging.

It was a game and *duh* that is why GAME animals are called GAME animals. In going after the guy who gave me the best challenge I could've easily come home empty handed after two days *and I still would've had fun!!!*

It is poor sportsmanship to shoot the easy ones. It is poor sportsmanship to trap coyotes (what government F&G usually does) instead of going after them personally.
