Ah. So Darrell Waltrip is a doofus because he likes the president's handshake. Sheryl Crow, OTOH, is a friggin genius spouting phrases like "karmic retributions". Have I got that straight?

This is the kind of Op-Ed we get in the Seattle papers up here in the great NW. I'm tempted to offer them a rebuttal, & see if they will publish it.

Give it a shot. Of course they might edit your letter so much that it bears no resemblance to what you submit.

It's much more basic than that: The real battle is people who reason versus people who don't.

This author and I are in complete agreement with each other, but I suspect for different reasons. :-)

Also, I would like to add that the gist of this article is: "Hey, if you don't agree with me, you're an idiot."

I might need to modify my philosophy of life to include this liberal mantra. I'll do it in the name of "diversity".

There's a big difference between being intelligent and being 'smart,' and Voltaire is the patron saint of all those who, for whatever reason, can't see it.

As I recall Voltaire, he was also very much the advocate of "eliminating" those with whom he disagreed. "The last King strangled in the entrails of the last Priest", or something along those lines. Not much for nuance or even "two sides" of an issue there.

Since this guy sees himself as being really-really smart like Voltair, I wonder what he has in mind as a "final solution" for all of us stupid folks.

>>> We have to slide horizontally into another universe and try to figure out a different way to communicate<<

heh heh! They should try talking REAL LOUD, and s-l-o-w, and wave their arms around and use baby talk (YOU...NO...UNDERSTAND...ME!). Just like the Tourists do, so maybe we'll understand 'em better...

Voltaire didn't advocate elimination of those with whom he disagreed. The quote you're thinking of, "Man will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest." is by Denis Diderot, not Voltaire.

Here's a Voltaire quote: "I detest what you write, but I would give my life to make it possible for you to continue to write."

So no, he didn't want to eliminate opposing views, or those who held them. Diderot on the other hand, did of course.
