PARIS, Jan 16 (AFP) - French President Jacques Chirac on Sunday invited new Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas to Paris for talks "as soon as possible," pledging support for his efforts to revive the moribund peace process with Israel.
Chirac's spokesman, Jerome Bonnafont, said the president telephoned Abbas to tell him: "France will do everything possible to help you in carrying out your mission."
He also said French Foreign Minister Michel Barnier would visit Israel and the Palestinian territories at a date yet to be fixed.
"The discussion also covered the fight against terrorism and the improvement of economic and social conditions in the territories, the two subjects going hand-in-hand to contribute to the stabilisation of the situation," Bonnafont said.
Chirac congratulated Abbas on his January 9 election as Palestinian Authority president, taking over from Yasser Arafat who died November 11 last year.
Chirac last met Abbas two days before Arafat's death in a Paris hospital, when Abbas came to the French capital as part of a Palestinian delegation.
You took the words right out of my mouth.
The former lords of Outremer have become the weasels of the western world.
What do the perpetrators of "modern day terrorism", know ANYTHING of being VICTIMS of terrorism ?
The P.A. is a cancer that needs to be eradicated.
France begging/buying its freedom.
Your right. The French have truly become a country of pathetic people
Schroeder and Putin have also both invited him.
Bingo.
Chirac: "Are you SURE you wouldn't like to embark on an even more vicious campaign of terrorism against those pesky Jews than our old friend Arafat did?"
Abbas: "Sure...but keep your voice, ok? I've got an image to protect!"
"France will do everything possible to help you in carrying out your mission."
And we all know what that mission is...

Sounds like a neo-nazi tea party.
Chirac is aware of the billions of arafat's hidden money. Chirac just wants his cut.
Why did we stop france from being a province of Germany agian?
>Eradication of the Jews?<
The anti-semitic movement has been growing at head spinning speed in France and Germany for years, as the Muslim population mushrooms and the Caucasion birth rate
subsides radically.
It kind of sounded like W was going to invite Abbas to the WH, so we can't pound the French too much for this.
Yeah, but it seems that Chirac had to beat everyone else in having Abbas visit him first.
I'm sure, since the French contributed some of it in the first place. Chirac will need it for his legal bills once he's out of office.
Is the US (read: US taxpayer) sending millions and millions to the Palestinians in aid? I would imagine that Chiraq is just wanting to sell the Palis some arms to kill more Jews, bought and paid for with OUR MONEY!!!
Damn them both to hell.
BUT,........ the krauts' just had their ass kicked, lost the war, and needed a "New" future to look forward too. And ....well.... THAT would have just been Inhumane, even Excruciating Torment to Make them take the French.
EVERY nation has it's breaking point !
