I live in Memphis, an area plagued with robberies and home invasions. I can't recall any stories where the victim's throat was slit. Shot or pistol whipped, sure.

Yes and often when the description of "throats slit" is used, they are nearly decapitated.

I'm recalling how articles described Van Gogh's (Dutch filmaker) throat as slit, when actually he was nearly decapitated.
