Gates: Global Giving As Foundation Aids Ghana Hospital, Virginia Libraries

Enriching lives and library cards. When a company is as huge as Microsoft (nasdaq: MSFT - news - people ), and the pockets as deep as those of billionaire Bill Gates even ancillary entities make the news. So it is with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. It was announced Friday that Ghana's Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital will receive $5 million from the foundation to procure equipment for the hospital. The money is expected to be used in training and retraining of health personnel of KATH and other health institutions in the African nation. In domestic business, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reports the foundation is planning a new campus for its headquarters.

I know that hospital myself.
It's the Teaching Hospital attached to the second medical school in Ghana, in Kumasi, the second biggest city in Ghana.
Money will come in very, very handy.
But of course this is yet another example of how really "stingy" Americans are, right? (((sarcasm)))
Where is the dopey Jan Egeland when you need him?

Yeah, but you didn't read the followup article where Gates threatened to give the hospital complimentary copies of Microsoft Windows... ;)
