Politics aside, Spielberg is a great director when he's not bogged down with a sappy script.
When he gets something smart and adventurous (Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park, Minority Report) he can make films that are entertaining, and which are great FILMS as well.
And while Tom Cruise's casting annoys me, he didn't end up hurting Minority Report.
