You will see the same here in America within a few years or months.

Within a few months or years? It's already here and getting worse by the day. Their problem is not nearly as devastating as ours is.

and not relegate myself to worship someone(Tancredo)

Worship? You dare to bring up the word.

I have seen worship of the type given to GWB only twice in my lifetime, FDR and Hitler, and to say I find it chilling is putting it mildly.

If guest workers show themselves to be productive, lawful members of their commumities, they WON'T be forced to return to their native countries. I want neighbors like that.

And if they aren't productive, how will they be sent home? What happens when there is a downturn in the economy & unemployment goes up - how will they be sent home so unemployed American citizens can have their jobs?

But they will apply for permanent visitor status, and they will be vetted through a meticulous, lawful process.

What are you talking about? This doesn't exist now, how will a guest worker plan creat this process? Who is going to vet records from another country or records forged in McArthur Park earlier in the day?

Why is an employer going to go through all this process, pay higher wages & taxes when they can just hire the illegal alien standing right next to the guest worker?

This was the only hand he could play.

I respect the honest commitment and effort you are putting into your political priority, but in my mind you are going to lose politically for one primary reason: Bush is going to frame his program as a humane solution to a imminent and critical national security issue, and your opposition will be framed primarily as an economic issue. You can't win that faceoff before the majority of the American populace.

They're not as angry as your group is that Pedro snuck into America to lay sod and raise his family. If he's going to work his butt off, pay his taxes and follow the law virtually no Americans will deny his access to the County Medical ER when his baby has a temp of 105. Americans do want Pedro here under legal obligation and supervision, and they demand that our border LEOs spend their resources and time stopping Jihad butchers from entering this country with the intent to blow us all to smithereens. That is how Bush will sell his proposal. It's a winner, no matter how many hit pieces Newsweek runs presenting his objectives differently.

Yes, Bush is wrong and Tancredo couldn't be more right.

"Okay. Fine. House Republicans should attach a provision in any Social Security bill that includes strong measures against illegal immigration."

I'm lovin' it.

I can't for the life of me figure out why GW, who I consider to be so "spot on" on most issues has taken such a stance with illegal immigration. If and when it becomes a very hot issue for Americans, let's hope he finally figures out that his plan sucks.

Well, that's one hell of an astute political observation. I don't necessarily disagree. I DO hope you tell this to us in the belief that this is how the Bush Administration will "sell" this to us and not that you agree that the approach is patriotic, correct or has any resemblance to anything that serves the American people and the best interests of the United States.

Second, the illegals have to register themselves and their employers with the federal government. So if a *single* illegal registers, then everyone at her sweatshop is going to be getting an enforcement visit from the feds because that illegal just registered her employer for compliance (e.g. with immigration laws, minimum wage laws, workman's compensation laws, etc.).

Currently no (or virtually no) employers are getting enforcement visits from BICE, yet everybody knows they are hiring illegals. Its been that way for years. What makes you think this is going to magically change once a guest worker program is implemented? The Feds could be raiding employers and reaping fines of hundreds of thousands of dollars, which would amount to much more than the $1500/guest worker, but it isn't happening. It's not going to all of a sudden begin the minute a guest worker plan begins.

It's that *registration* that makes enforcement possible. Without registration, from a law enforcement perspective you are dealing with millions of anonymous fugitives; a labor-intensive problem to solve. With registration, it's dead easy to send the appropriate agents to the appropriate businesses.

Who is going to make them register? We have no idea who the illegals are, or where they are. We have no way of tracking them. Who is going to make them register? Why would an employer go through the trouble of checking for registration, when they don't check for SS #'s now? Why would the employer go through the process of checking for registration, pay the guest worker a legal wage, taxes, benefits, when the employer can just hire the new wave of illegals? If the employers now have to pay a legal wage, insurance, benefits, taxes, why would they hire a guest worker who speaks little English, when they can just hire an American citizen?

Do you think the borders will be hermetically sealed once the guest worker program is implemented? So, the employer

I have several questions:

Why must all immigration talk center on Mexicans? They're only one country among many, and yet Bush wants to allow millions of them in, but not millions of more desirable skilled workers from other countries.

Why are we not hearing more about the effect all this illegal immigration is having on the Black population? They're the main ones affected, since it's the unskilled jobs they used to perform that are being taken by illegals who will work for less.

Another question: Where I live (Washington State) it's darned near impossible to our teenagers to even get burger flipper jobs. My kids picked berries and fruit, and did work at waitresses, dishwashers, janitors, pumped gas, and cleaned hotel rooms, etc., but there's not a white or Black kid doing those jobs these days, only Mexicans.

Finally, and this is a real practical question, once we've eliminated all the Blue Collar jobs in this country, either by exporting the jobs or importing the illegal labor, is our entire Blue Collar class to all go on welfare? What other option do they have, robbing banks? It's not like we don't have an unskilled labor force of our own, the schools have seen to that. What are these (our own) people to do for a livelihood? Are they not to be allowed to have the American Dream, just so some Mexican can have it instead?

American Blue collar workers shouldn't be competing with immigrant labor. There's no excuse for a lack of education in 21st century America. Not for third and fourth generation natives

"Are you saying that all third and fourth generation natives should and are able to have the PhD degrees? In what field, in computer science or in radiology maybe?"

my mistake was not italicizing, second paragraph was my response to post 313..below:

You are forgetting legal immigrants and first generation citizens..how nice, who do you think is competing with them for jobs? Oh yes what happened to freedom of choice? People should be able to decide what occupation they want to pursue and have fair competition in it. How about we allow 10 million guest worker doctors and lawyers? Why not, let them compete and see who screams.

...Furthermore, I believe a citizen or legal immigrant should only have to compete against fair competition, and whether one uses their head or their hands or their back one should not have one ability favored over another by a huge competition of foreigners.....not everyone can complete a higher education and some that do still end up as 50 year old $14,000 a year hamburger flippers with no medical insurance or retirement plan...

I'm with you, the thought of that scares the ever-loving hell out of me!! Heard talk of Newt as well... and I agree a Newt/Rice ticket wouldn't be too bad...

The illegal aliens in California have most of the entry level jobs too. They also are taking construction jobs and every other kind of blue collar job by working for cash. I'm sick of people saying that they're only doing jobs Americans won't do. The open borders lobby thinks that if they say it over and over, people will start to believe it. People don't believe it. People are sick of paying the bills.

The resentment is growing towards the President who is allowing this invasion.
