I am glad you sent that e-mail. I am sure Powerline and Little Green Footballs did a lot with the super-detailed work, but we were the first and I am sure it was Freepers who e-mailed them.
The best thing about the internet is how people from different walks of life can come together to work on something like this, and that different sites can exchange information and work towards a common goal.
I do not want to get into arguments with Powerline and Little Green Footballs. They are good guys, too, but I think Powerball was a little overwhelmed by the attention...plus I am not sure they knew at first where the original information came from.
All's well that ends well.

FR will probably be the one to break the news Bin Laden has been captured.

We Were Big time when We Broke the Shuttle Crash When we Broke Sadamn Captured. When We Broke Rathergate... those are the three that come to mind right now the list is very long. I think 911 was here first as well. Fox news just caught up. Rush has known about us for Years

I don't want an argument either, so they best start giving credit where credit is due; we were almost a full 12 hours ahead of them.

It really proves only that he reads his email. There was a thread last night about how the Rather story actually turned. Someone linked to Brit Hume's email at Fox and I'd imagine that there was a considerable response. I sent a complaint and I'll bet I wasn't the only one.
Still, it wouldn't surprise me if he was a FReeper.

Did you hear Rush today? He played a tape of a lawyer for one of the defendants explaining what actually happened at Abu Gharib. I think Mary Mapes LIED about that also! She used a few still photos to prove a lie! I don't trust her "reporting" one bit!

Yes, we were. And I will excuse the first interviews because they may not have known. However, that last interview yesterday they could have pointed out who first spotted the discrepancies.
There is no doubt that Powerline was valuable in driving the story forward. They should get full credit for that.
But Free Republic did break the story. And we are not a blog (which is what lazy journalists are now calling any opinion posted on the internet, regardless of what it really is).

I think a Newsweek article last year after the incident referred to freerepublic as the first or one of the first to pick up on the story.
But, I think they called it the blog freerepublic :-)
