Are you saying that the 13 colonies would not have united together if they were socialists? Were any countries socialist in the 1700's? I do not see your point at all how socialism plays any role in the development of the European Union. Sorry :((

Socialism is a giant econnomic anchor that will drag your EU down in flames. Economics was a prime reason for the Civil War in the USA. It will cause the split in the EU. The western EU countries will get tired of supporting the eastern ones (excepting Poland which seems to be adapting to capitalism well). The young in the EU will get tired of supporting the elderly (of course the french will just let them cook, bastards). The Christians will get overrun by the muslims.

Those are 3 HUGE fault lines that will crack the EU inside of 30 years.

What on earth have China and India got to do with internal trade inside the EU, which was the whole point, supposedly of the Zero.

Or sorry was it a take over all economic powers by the Brussels, because it sure hasn't benefited anybody economically.

I wouldn't call it "dictation." People here vote, and they voted for it, yeah democracy. And there are a lot of U.S. States who don't like it when the Federal Government tells them they have to clean up their polluted air etc. I don't see any difference between the Federal U.S. Government and the E.U. Heck the E.U. is not even close to being "The Feds" I don't see the laws being passed as Socialist Laws. They are more related to commerce, and now environmental laws are gearing up. The "Socialist" items are handled at the individual Nation level. I do think each country sets it's own minimum wage.

Please tell me you don't think that a bunch of treaties are going to keep one disgruntled or arrogant nation in the EU from declaring war on another.

I do believe history demonstrates that it can and DOES happen.

The EU has not taken any of my freedom away so why worry about someone over the ocean, who "thinks" but does not know any freedoms lost.

Tried to buy a pistol lately there chap ?

Sell your produce in english units ?

That's just the start.

I cannot think of any democracy who has declared war on another. Can you?

Germany and France

Britain and France

Hey crazycat, your Post #73 did not mention inter nation trade within EU Members. I would lave to stay and chat longer but I gotta go. I have one leg in France and one leg in the USA, but my heart is ALL AMERICAN. I can see good points and bad points in both types of democracies. Ya'll gotta remeber that the E.U. member countries are all democracis. People vote for this! I do feel that a strong united EU is an economic threat to the USA, so IMHO I hope they grow as a family very s-l-o-w-l-y. But I do want to see them grow.

The idea that the EU has stopped any and all wars in Europe, is a favourite myth pushed by Euro zealots.

It does however very conveniently ignore the existence of Nato and the treaties that bind Nato members.

LOL...I know. They're very gullible, aren't they? Unfortunately, they like to think that they are past all that. Humans haven't evolved to that point just yet. We aren't living in a Gene Roddenberry universe, and don't think we ever will.

It's that kind of thinking that's gonna get them run over. I guess they haven't heard the old adage about getting peace by preparing for war.

My Reply: Would you say then that Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin et al were "zealots"?

Well, I do believe Hitler was elected to the post of Chancellor. I don't know about the other, to be frank.
