But alas I am not English,...

I didn't think you were a wanker. With your religious homage to unionism, I figured you to be be a Scot or Welsh. Odd, that's what my great-great-grandfather was, a Scot and my paternal grand parents were both Welsh. However, you are probably an immigrant from one of the former British Empire Colonies, that have been turning the Island into a toilet for the last 20 years.

Money talks.

No it doesn't, it swears. And present situations considered, America can always make more. The largest difference between America and Europeans is about money. To Americans it is only a tool. To Europeans, money is an end in itself. That's why you don't, really, have any.

Hello, again, my friend. You do know that almost all the folks that McCarthy "persecuted" really were communist, right? :)

You seem obsessed with denigrating anyone who is not American, purely because they are different. There is a word for that...

Yes, a Muslim.

A bit testy this evening, eh?

Seriously, that's really not similar, except for the atmosphere surrounding the whole thing. That, I am not terribly qualified to comment on, since my mother wasn't even in school when this was going on. I wasn't even a twinkle in their eye, yet.

"...almost all the folks that McCarthy "persecuted" really were communist..."

That kind of comment reminds me of the old witchunt trials that proved witches were real:

Actually, "exnavychick" speaks the truth. The McCarthy hearings, though crude, exposed many communists in the US State and Defense Departments.

As a Brit, you might be interested in "Googling" the name "Sir Stafford Cripps". He was in the Labour Govt. that gave the Soviet Union the plans for the Rolls Royce "Nene" jet engine. American pilots had to fly combat against Russian built, Nene powered Migs in Korea in 1950. Thanks a lot, Comrade!

(all together now) "The International"!

Nice to have some backup. :)

Former US Army considers it an honor to assist the ex-US Navy, when necessary. I don't think this bloke came to discuss the world situation, but to use the USA as a "head". ;^)

Ex-Army, huh? So's my brother, so that makes you OK in my book! Thanks for the hand.

About the other, well, I don't know. We had a very lively debate last night, so I think he's a bit cranky tonight. :)
