Good point. One person used to be able to afford to maintain a family in this nation. Perhaps we should be asking why it is not so now and looking at how to get back there. As wealthy as this nation is, there's no excuse for what's been going on.
The answer is dead simple: Government is twice as big as it used to be.
Any Republicans not willing to make cuts that big are NOT family friendly.
I don't buy that. It can be done. It is being done on one income. True, the Mercedes and Antigua vacations and fur coats may be scarce, or may have to planned for, and dare we say it--"budgeted" for, but it can be done. After having some "help" in my home, I decided it was far more trouble than it was worth and it really is. How are they ever going to remedy what has happened to their child? One of them needs to stay home.
In some parts of the country, you still can. I'm a stay-at-home Mom and I know that there are quite a few other Freeper ladies that are as well. I'm not going to criticize working mothers in general. I know that there are situations where people have no choice and they have to work. On the other hand, I see people like my sister choosing to work when she doesn't have to because she wants to keep her large home, her Volvo, her husband's Harley and their trips to Hawaii. She also says that she would be bored by staying at home with my niece which is very sad.
I'm very pro-stay-at-home mom. Having said that, having only one income families all across the U.S. would have to have an impact on our economy. Not as much money to spend to buy 'stuff' you know.
That might be a good thing though. Would keep the prices of housing and cars and such down a bit.
