If they are sixteen and seventeen, can't they walk to the fridge to get something? Or can't they get a job and order chinese or a pizza?

(Not to say this issue doesn't need to be cleared up. Just asking.)

The article states that the kid worked part-time and attended school, buys his own food and staples.

The parents are scum. Father and mother....

The mom may not put food in the house for the kids to "walk to the fridge and get some". Also, If you is abusive, the kids may be scared to do so.

A child, under 18 should not have to work for their own food. That is the job of the parent to provide food and housing until the child is 18.
