But isn't that kind of like trying to get a drunk to get treatment when they don't want it?

When "a drunk" comes to the realization that he's destroying himself, he might be happy that all those people and their organizations, set up to help him, exist -- even though building them might be a "waste of time."

Where does hope come from? Where does the strength to rebuild one's life come from? Why take the time to teach right from wrong? What does it mean to be part of a family, of a community, of a society? Do you just let someone who is lost wander? Do we have no personal responsibility for anyone else who needs help?

i didn't say treatment centers and support programs are a waste of time...i said trying to get a drunk into treatment before they are ready is a waste of time. You can talk to them until you're blue-in-the-face, but until they come to the realization, on their own, that they need help, it does no good. And it's much the same with gays. They just aren't going to hear what you're saying, or they'll twist it to suit their cause.
