Beat you there by about a dozen years. Made one Med run, which was where we parked it on the rocks. We rang in the New Year bouncing off the rocks in Palma. Broke the anchor chain about 0200.

I was a sonarman....you do go active on the fathometer unless you are tracking....it is all on hardcopy....also, how do you think a sub navigates under ice? Hey, just because I don't have any first-hand experience doesn't mean my voice shouldn't be heard. I mean, I read it in a book for gosh sakes.
I think you meant to reply to mudblood, not me.

All I was saying is:
Its not a foregone conclusion a CO will be relieved in a grounding. Some will and some will not be.
It depends on whether or not negligence was involved.
I didnt clarify it enough, I think.
I've seen it go both ways.

My brother-in-laws son served on the Pogy in the early 90's. The son has some awesome pictures of the conn punched through the ice at the North Pole. I think they did it deliberately......
My brother-in-laws personalized license plate is "Pogy".

I was never in the PAC, so I don't know if they have a PAC equivalent of AUTEC where boats go to do TRE
I dont remember one, to be honest
To: Quilla
Thanks. That was USS Seahorse (SSN-669). My favorite boat. Basically, they use chillers and vent heaters. It was usually either too hot or too cold.

Thanks for explaining that, I was unaware of the controversy you mention. I was prompted to post when I noticed that no else had posted a map to the location of the grounding. My primary interest in this thread is nautical and technical.

There needs to be a "Steely-eyed killers of the deep" ping list. Anyone want to start one? You boomer fags can play too. :)

Overlay that map with known areas of volcanic activity and you may find some more information on why they ran aground.
The Caroline islands are a volcanic hotbed of activity, both underwater and in the island chains.

I'm definitely in...lets do it!

Guess I won't be hearing about Canadian subs catchin' fire for a while Huh?

Get everyones name and post it to a section of your homepage. Cut and paste it when you need to ping them, or if someone else needs it they can cut and paste it.
To: judicial meanz
"The Caroline islands are a volcanic hotbed of activity..." The Caroline Islands are volcanic in origin, but I'm unaware of any current volcanic activity. Do you have a link? And why would this be a factor in the grounding?

A modern version of judge Roy Bean. We could use this guy in the WOT.

I imagined rocking it back and forth like you do a car stuck in the snow. I imagine the gearshift lever is a little different, though. It's best if you have a couple of pieces of old carpet under the submarine, for traction.
