Hmmm.... I wonder could it have been a meteor??
meteor, n.
a small body of matter from outer space that becomes incandescent as a result of friction with the earth's atmosphere and is visible as a streak of light.
[Middle English via modern Latin meteorum from Greek meteoron, neut. of meteoros lofty (as meta-, aeiro raise)]
Naw... guess it must be space aliens.
Unless you've got an actual asteroid causing a crater, etc. All meteors hit the ground at room temperature, basically, not "warm" or "hot" or "starting a fire".....descriptors like the latter are typical of bogus reports.
Meteors don't retain heat real well, and ones that reach the ground basically reach a terminal velocity after an initial deceleration and they're cooled by the wind rushing over them.
