You said -- "This is what one might call a wedge issue. It couldn't be designed better to separate us from potential allies, if it were designed by Laden himself."

You don't understand the issue of the legitimacy of Islam and that no amount of so-called "PR" can overcome the lost legitimacy of their primary symbol being destroyed. At that point, Osama would become history's "has been", to disappear off history's pages.

We should definitely target their primary symbol of legitimacy, which (supposedly) makes Islam superior to all other religions.

A corollary to that is that Islam must destroy Judaism and Christianity as the only serious competitors to it. But without that symbol, Islam is destroyed at its heart -- never to come back again.

Mind you, we're not talking about destroying a city full of people, but rather -- the symbol alone. With the symbol gone, the people will "cave". The Christians and Jews can then subject every single last Muslim to infinite ridicule of their so-called religion -- just like the prophets of the Old Testament did to Israel's enemies. I would make it totally relentless ridicule, using their destroyed symbol of Islam, as the point of the spear.
