I am owned by an African Grey named Buster, and I am here to testify that he talks a blue streak. "Get in the water! Take a bath!" he says when he wants his bathtub. "What, Sweetie-girl? Wanna come out?" to his late companion, cockatiel Sweetie. He gobbles like a turkey, crows like a rooster, whistles like a husband puttering in the workshop, and calls the dog. "Bertie! Bertie-Dog!" His only profanity is a whispered, "Oh, sh*t!" Since AG's live about as long as humans, he and I will be growing old together, at least for a while, since he is only 11 and I am almost 62. It's great fun to have his companionship, and I recommend it to anyone with the money to spend and the disposition for the care and training of such an intelligent creature.

Okay, I'll start. It's an oldie. Stop me if you've heard it.

This man had a parrot, and all it would say is, "I'm a whore from Chicago!"

That's all it would say.

He was very embarrassed; so he asked the preacher what he could do to make the bird stop saying such a rude thing.

The preacher said the his parrot was very pious. All it did was pray, day and night, night and day. He suggested that they put the two parrots together and that perhaps the piety of the devout fowel would rub off on the foul-mouthed fowel.

The man thought this was a good idea; so he brought his parrot to the preacher's house, and they put it in the cage with the preacher's bird.

The first thing the man's parrot said was, "I'm a whore from Chicago!"

The preacher's parrot shouted, "Thank God! My prayers have been answered!"

Yeah, and people claim parrots don't know what they're saying. Anyone who has owned one, is owned by one (as you apparently are) or even knows one, knows how smart these birds are.

I'm reminded of the joke about a parrot who the owner acquired from a pirate before the buccaneer was hanged. They took him home and the parrot kept cussing a blue streak, despite the tenderest training. Finally, in frustration, the owner started caging the parrot, covering the cage and employing other negative reinforcement in response to the parrots swearing episodes.

All to no avail. Finally, in sheer frustration, the owner locked the parrot in the icebox for a few minutes. Hearing whimpering and fearing the worst, the owner opened the icebox to find the parrot shivering and repentant. "Good sir," said the parrot, "I realize the harshness of my language may have offended you and I promise not to do it again." Elated, the owner asked the parrot why the change. Said the parrot "May I ask what the turkey said to provoke such harsh punishment?"

I have an African Gray and they are one of the best talkers and mimicker's there are. Mine mimics every noise in the house and repeats everything she hears.

My nephew had one who attended Penn State with him and lived in the dorm. That bird came up with some pretty flowery speech.
