I don't suppose my new snow shovel will be much use during magma slams.
Yes, but, you know girls being lighter than us guys will be pulled upward toward Planet X, and we'll be busy holding on to our women folk and we'll probably drop our compasses with all the screaming and stuff . . . |
The science is mightily disputed, especially by USGS employees, however the World Series quake and the Good Friday quake were full moon quakes. There is a folk knowledge in South America that full moons often precede volcano eruptions. There is assumed a three-day window since the moon doesn't suddenly become full but slowly moves into position. The Sumatra section of the faultline is released and won't pop again like that for a long time, but adjacent sections are as stressed as ever. 23 Jan, roughly, look for another quake of major size around the Ring of Fire, and maybe a significant volcano.
Is it a wide blade? You know, could be a whole new sport -- Magma Surfing ! |
Better be careful or he'll/she'll become a little adamant!!!
That could be the hot new sport.
You insects fixing to gang up us?
Yes. The land surface rises and falls as much as three feet during tidal maximum. Not an express elevator, but some creaking and groaning wouldn't be unexpected.
I don't doubt that considering it was a six hundred mile long shift. Interesting observations. I'll watch.
4.0? Sorry, but there are quakes, and mundane posts like mine on a daily basis...nothing to see here folks
LOL!
If you are watching this, is the frequency increasing all over the world?
Nope. Not at all. If anything worldwide quakes are below normal.
However, the frequency of every little quake all over the world getting a FR thread is increasing.
Check this site out for earthquake info. As a side note, the data for 2004 is as of September.

Better make sure your wearing insulated booties, don't want to run the chance of burning your tootsies.
I prefer 93.5 on the FM dial. A good mix of Classic rock, and some "newer" stuff.
Now, now, Sierra. We're just havin' us a nice civil discussion here.
In this instance I'd say the comment was to let people know there's nothing unusual about this quake.
