To be absolutely fair, when you read Williams's entire interview, he doesn't come off as dweebish as the selected quotes in the article portray him to be.

There really is no point in reading with he says. He always tries to say all things to all people in the least concrete ways. If he wrote a recipe for boiling eggs, you would begin to doubt that eggs, water and heat exist.

Oh, I don't trust him at all.

It's just that the news article was rather selective in what it chose to quote.

Not that that changes the ArchDruid's basic inclinations. . . .

I'm not surprised. For the most part, the Christian Church in Europe has abandoned its spiritual roots. A friend of mine who recently visited Europe said the continent has reverted to a pre-Christian state.

If the Archbishop were a man of faith, he would have said that only belief in the existence of a good and loving God allows one to understand and endure tragedies like the tsunami.

Someone pointed out that the emotional banning of DDT causes 5 more million people to die every year in roughly the same region where the tsunami struck. Food for thought...

As a former high-church Episcopalian, I cannot understand why anyone remains in what has become an apostate church.

Me neither, although I will say that in dioceses with a relatively conservative bishop, I do understand why folks are hanging on.

My parents live in the Diocese of Georgia (the southern half of the state). Their bishop, Louttit, voted against the "consecration" of Vicki Gene and is quite orthodox. He even allows the 1928 prayerbook. He met with any parish that wanted to talk to him and advised a "keep your heads down" approach, which is what most folks down there have done. They stick to their own parish and don't concern themselves with national affairs. Of course, there aren't many Episcopalians in S. GA anyhow, except in Savannah, so they probably don't register on the national radar.

In contrast, our position here in the Diocese of Atlanta, with the stridently and aggressively pro-homosexual and anti-conservative Alexander, is absolutely untenable. He has already destroyed the major evangelical/orthodox parish in Atlanta (last I heard, the priest is sitting in an empty church with his secretary and one employee) and is working on the major Anglo-Catholic one.

Which is why we're now Catholic. Where did you wind up?

In case you wondered why the latest polls in UK showed that under half of the population still believes in God...the proof is in the Yorkshire pudding(or Canterbury this time). I am not surprised by this, the English Church has a long history of acting for material/political interest instead of spiritual one. This only came as the confirmation from the source itself.

Mr. RW,

Maybe your church should spring into action with its considerable resources and try to make a gigantic difference in this terrible tragedy.

This guy needs to be retired. He is just another goofball.

Re: Post 246--well synopsized AAmMo. And regarding ABC Rowan's Comment--it is impossible to imagine any words in any way similiar coming out of the mouth of the Pope.

What a travesty in Christian leadership to state such a dictate to all Christians at a desperate time of disaster and hopelessness for so many.

That's because the good Bishop loves this world.

No wonder Christianity is so misunderstood when men of God don't even know theology. The Tsunami was a horrible thing but horrible things have happened since the beginning of the world. We live in a natural world, we're not in heaven yet.

At the risk of offending folks who may follow this fellow for spiritual guidance, I will say that I have never seen him quoted before concerning anything.

Hello Everyone

I had better say I am not a conservative.

Here is a link to Rowan Williams' article in the UK Telegraph.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/opinion/main.jhtml?xml=/opinion/2005/01/02/do0201.xml

Anyone not having read it, take a look. It might help you consolidate your opinions one way or the other. But it seems pretty clear to me that he does believe in God; whether the Telegraph does is another matter.
