Carloads of Muslim New Yorkers, all U.S. citizens, were detained for hours by federal agents after they returned from an Islamic convention held in Toronto over the weekend. A Pace University student said she was asked by a border patrol officer at the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge crossing whether the wire in her bra was a weapon. A white Flushing resident said U.S. officials refused to tell her why she was being held for eight hours.
"It's just appalling," said Jean Tassi, 53. "If I didn't have on a head covering, I would have never been stopped."
A U.S. Customs and Border Protection official said agents acted on intelligence that conventioneers may have terrorists in their cars.
"We understand that most of these conferences are legitimate, but it is our duty, it is incumbent on us to verify the identity of everybody entering the U.S. - even citizens," said Kristi Clemens, a Washington spokeswoman. "I understand their frustration."
More than 30 people had attended "Reviving the Islamic Spirit" convention at the Skydome that was billed as a spiritually uplifting event.
"I refuse to be treated like this in my own country," said Miriam Soliman, 20, a Brooklyn-born finance major who said she was interrogated about her underwire bra.
What would you say if I told you these U.S. Citizens were forced to be fingerprinted and photographed before CBP let them go?
I would say "GOOD"
And what would you say, if CBP did the same to you?
Recently, so-called "muslim extremists" committed the most deadly attack on American soil ever against predominantly civilian targets. The attackers entered the United States through gaping holes in our border security. So called "moderate muslims" around the world and here in the U.S. have been slow to condemn and often quick to applaud the terrorist acts of so-called "extremist muslims". Either way, they have done almost nothing to expose and catch the murderers among them.
You're muslim. And you're surprised we're taking our time to thoroughly check you over when you come into this country, citizen or no? I think it's time to actively work to redeem your faith and expose the murderers we know are among you, or STFU. And before you keep whining about being treated unfairly, think on this: the Japanese did less, and look at what we did to them. It could be a lot worse for you.
So take it off, and shut the hell up. Or better yet, go back to Islamabad.
Not sure. Depends on the kind of cooperation that exits between the two agencies.
I invite this b*tch to any airport to see how all Americans are being treated because of a group of muslim terrorists. Then I invite her and her friends into the AZ desert to discuss any further problems she may have on how she's being treated. She won't be complaining anymore.
It usually happens after the CBP asks, "do you or anyone in your family own a firearm, and, if so, how many and what kind... ?"
Yes, profiling saves lives.
Personally, I find it disturbing that CBP is starting to detain and fingerprinting US citizens returning home.
Oh, I understand. I would find it disturbing if they did it to me on the way home.
I've been doing this for 7 years, and have never heard any CBP officer, Immigration Officer, or Customs Officer as that question of anyone seeking entry into the US.
And if we decided you fit into a profile, what would you think then?
I have many profiles I use during my inspections.
Extra scrutiny and questioning is one thing, but fingerprinting and photographing US Citizens, because of race or religion, is a road I don't want to travel down.
It's only a matter of time, before DHS decides everyone will be fingerprinted and photographed before being let back into the US.
You look Muslim to me, so I think I'll detain you and fingerprint you and your family.
Do we really want to go there?
This is their country. Their country is fingerprinting them.
I guess you would not mind me fingerprinting you?
Do we want to? No. Do we have to? Probably.
And I suspect that after the next major terror attack you'll likely agree.
My fingerprints are already on file...served in the military. Print away....I'm not concerned about fingerprinting, what I'm more concerned about are terrorist and illegals crossing our borders.
