Did you see the Dukes reunion movie? I think it was called "Return to Hazzard". IIRC it was full of PC bull.

"a symbol that has become quite the object of controversy since the original TV series' seven-season run starting in 1979. "
Well, I remember watching the "dukes" quite often, and I was in radio at the time, with full availability to network and teletype news, and I don't remember any controversy at that time. That is not to say it didn't occur, but spending 8 hours a day around an AP teletype machine, and news broadcasts every half-hour, you'd think there would have been some mention of it.
Anyway, I don't think it's so much all the liberals, as it is a small contingent of them with well-placed access to the main stream media.
In fact, most of the "controversies" we hear about are media-sourced and media-amplified. They love to start a controversy, it's ready-made news. And we all know the great percentage of the media is made up of liberals.
This was probably stirred by some pulitzer-pundit seeing the new movie version of "Dukes" and looking for a story. But, they can't hate the Confederate Flag nearly as much as I hate the media.

Grant was not a drunk. That is a neo-confederate myth.
It Grant was a great American hero. Grant was the most popular, loved, revered American behind Washington & Lincoln for 100 years.
It is not necessary to attack one myth with another.

Luke understands, and explains to Bo that some people find the flag offensive and a "symbol of slavery... ...and then Bo and Luke kiss and have anal sex while Daisy has an on-screen abortion right before she lectures both Duke boys on gun control, world peace and organic farming.
By now Bo understands and says "I can see now that George Bush IS Hitler" and facilitates further discussion by performing an interpretive dance. "Every vote must count" he shouts.
Then, both brothers weep for the oppressed plight of all womyn throughout the world, throughout history (herstory).

I'm imagining the scene right now.

"Bo and Luke ask a group of African-American college students for directions. "Is this a joke? Some kind of reality show?" one of them asks. Bo, the dimmer of the Dukes, explains the flag is cool and that their friend Cooter, a Civil War buff, painted it when he fixed the car. But Luke understands, and explains to Bo that some people find the flag offensive and a 'symbol of slavery.' That Luke, he always was perty' smart."
I think this scene is just injecting humor into the controversy.

To liberals, Georgia is Flyover Country. It might as well be on the other side of the moon. Tell y'all the legacy media is gunnin' to be hogtied to hate a movie that puts Red State America in a positive light.

She can barely talk a coherent sentence as far as I am to tell. I doubt she was cast in the movie for her acting ability (I'm LOL at even writing that).
I think she's dime a dozen pretty.

I hope the makers of the Dukes of Hazzard movie talk themselves right out of the profit margin with this stupidity. And now, I'm going to go run out my Confederate battle flag over Col. Robert Gould Shaw's body and whistle Dixie . . .
