An impressive find! I'm really glad you posted it. It floors me that they would lie about this letter and tell people they were "directed" to charge for all goods, when in fact they were only advised to charge for FURLOGH meals and lodging in the British Isles during WWII.

Amazing, and totally repugnant. I'm just horrified that the Red Cross would continue to protest that the "doughnut selling story" was all a "myth" created by soldiers, or that they were "directed" to charge for goods by the Secretary of War. Those protestations are an outright lie.
