The way 90% of the countries in the UN see it, it's the function of the UN to get the United States to transfer its wealth over to them. Inducing us to feel guilty is part of the MO.

The IDIOT on Fox News was James Warren of the Chicago Trib. He was on with Tammy Bruce and the argument he was clinging to was how small Foreign Aid is in our budget compared to other countries ... leaving aside that 1% of our budget = 50% of most countries' budgets.

Warren used to be a daily fixture on the Laura Ingraham show when she had it at MSNBC, and was the reason I just couldn't watch, even tho I really like Laura. Guy looks like a does of X-Lax wouldn't hurt.

God help those poor people, I'd bet that there are very few atheists amongst those who have had to endure this horror.

God will help them. The USA will probably be his primary tool. The UN is irrelevant. We should cut their funding and use the money for our various philanthropic activities.

Of course, he conveniently ignores the vast amounts of private charity raised by Americans for foreign nations. But then, since that money doesn't go through the UN (where he and his cronies can siphon it for their own bank accounts) it doesn't count.

Sometimes your responses are so profound that limiting them to 2cents worth seems kinda selfish.

fastattacksailor is right on.
If we are going to be accused of stinginess, we might as well live up to our undeserved reputation. Next time, we should demand that they come to the SPEAKER of the HOUSE with hat in hand.

Hey, come on, let's give the UN a break here! Look at it from their perspective. The Iraqi Oil-For-Food graft has dried up yet they still have mistresses, yachts and vast property holdings to support.

The UNers have to skim funds from all programs and demand kickbacks, payoffs and bribes from all vendors, subcontractors and local organizations just to break even! So, before you criticize a UNer for try to maximize program size so as to improve his opportunity for graft, try maintaing a mistress and her 3 children in an Upper East Side apartment for several years.

The solution is obvious.

Redirect the $1 billion in UN "dues" that the United States "owes" toward tsunami relief.

Egeland said more than 2,000 UN workers and hundreds of airplanes will arrive within 48 hours in the eight nations most severely affected by the earthquake off Sumatra.

______________________________________________________________

I certainly hope the survivors have received the 48 hours notice....these poor people will now be under the additional stress of hiding their wives, daughters and mothers from the 2,000 UN workers.

"The United States gives out $13.3 billion tax dollars in direct Foreign Aid annually.

The United States is above and beyond the single most generous benefactor of the United Nations, donating $2.4 billion dollars of your hard earned money, to primarily third-world dictators.

This amount is 25% of the United Nations budget.

In addition, the United States gives another $1.4 billion tax dollars to United Nations' programs and agencies. The American taxpayers fund more for the United Nations than ALL of the other 177 member nations combined."

- Your right, what was I thinking? Why should we offer anyone a helping hand? Why should we help our fellow human beings who have just suffered what ranks as one of the worst disasters in living memory? /sarcasm off

You are pretty cold hearted and don't know when to put politics aside.

OK, tell you what...

You tell me just HOW many times you allow yourself to be bitten as you try to feed that stray dog...

How many times do you allow the burglar to come unhindered into your home...and then criticize you for not having better stuff to steal each time?

The Islamazi countries hate us, want us dead...we are the Great Satan...but that hand (probably the unsanitary one) is reaching out and grabbing our wallets again!

You want to be "charitable"...cool. Spend ALL you want of YOUR money.

When it comes to a hostile, ungrateful world...hands off MY tax $$$ to give to them who would as soon spit on me or try to kill me!

What have other countries done?

I don't know what other countries have done for victims of the sunami, but I live in Florida and we were hit with 4 high category hurricanes this year....and other countries did nothing for us. However we are capable of taking care of ourselves

Hm...I wonder if our "stinginess" is going to make the rest of the world hate us.

Oh wait, they already do.

The UN should passs a joint security council resolution condemning both the earthquake, and the resultant tsunami. That'd get some positive action, by golly!

This from the organization who flew their flag at half-mask for Arafat, but not for Ronald Reagan. They are becoming meaningless.
