A Garden Grove CA City Council where now California State Assemblyman VAN TRAN became its 1st Vietnamese American City Councilman in the City's History ...in Year 2000. Making him only the 2nd such Vietnamese American to attain elected office in U.S. History.
The same Garden Grove CA City Council that saw a young High School Student, named ALOHA RONNIE Guyer, become a City Councilman for a day during the City's Youth Day Activities in Year 1958.
In Year 2004 VAN TRAN became the 1st Vietnamese American to take office as a State Legislator in U.S. History.
The same VAN TRAN who was a one year old little boy growing up in Saigon, Vietnam when ALOHA RONNIE Guyer was fighting for his Freedom in Vietnam's Central Highlands in 1965. http://www.lzxray.com/guyer_set1.htm

"America, such a wonderful country. "
It's funny, hanging out with Vietnamese-Americans makes me more aware of that on a daily basis.
The other day I was on the phone with a customer service rep, and started to spell my wife's name for him ("It's Vietnamese.... N-G-U....")
"That's OK. I know how to spell it. It's my last name too."
Stuff like that makes me happy.
I did a presentation in a college class about Vietnam recently and included some pictures of elected VanTran and the Free Flag. I also told them about a "good FRiend" who sometimes ends up in newphotos wearing his BRIGHT Yellow Jacket, symbolizing the Free Vietnam Flag! I told them to read carefully when hearing news reports and to be aware that there are those against freedom.
They were impressed by learning about the Vietnamese community and their dedication to FREEDOM!
Freedom Fighters come in all shapes, sizes, races and nationalities!
