"I truly do hope everyone is okay but I have some questions:
1. Didn't anyone see the weather forecasts? This has been on weather channel all week.
2. Didn't these people realize they don't know how to drive in snow?
3. 14" is really not that much snow. (Yes, I know everything is relative.) Again, it seems as if a lot of people were unprepared."
My first thoughts, as well. Who travels by car anywhere without knowing what lies ahead? 'Tain't Rocket Science in this day and age.
Here in North Vernon (about 15 miles SE of Columbus) we got 20" with 3-4 ft drifts everywhere.
Temp is supposed to start dropping to a low of 9 below tonight.
Even with a 4WD I don't think I'm going anywhere for a while!
200 yds of driveway out to the main road. No way....
I am near Columbus,IN. (about 65 miles North of Louisville,KY on I-65.
From what I am hearing, it would be foolish to try it.
We are simply not equipped to handle this much snow.
Temps expected to drop to 9 degrees below tonight.
Here in eastern WV, it is 55 outside, and raining. But, almost two years ago, I had to use a bulldozer to clear my 1/2 mile driveway. Winter isn't over here, yet!
I have an explorer, but the fireplace is more comfortable, and the pantry is full. My generator is topped of with LP and I have about six cords of oak stacked up... let her rip!
I will have to go and get some milk, though. the wife NEEDS it!
Most SUV's ought to handle 14 inches of snow without a lot of trouble. The difficulty comes when inexperienced drivers think that four wheel drive shortens their braking distance.
Interstate 24 in Western KY...West bound is finally moving..inching along.
Other areas are not moving.
Truck drivers have been opening up their trucks (their loads) and giving out food...crackers...bottled water. Area residents have been walking to the interstate and bringing in food/water and helping to check on people.
Women and children in cars that have a cross hanging from the rearview mirror, hardest hit ... because the A.C.L.U. will insist on making a point of "state workers" helping people "equitably."
That means that this is another incident for Mineta. The exact demographic profile of the population involved, must be examined so that the people are helped by rank of their political correctness.
By the end of the day, the U.S. Supreme Court will get into it.
No doubt, one of the stuck vehicles, has in its trunk, a bag full of uncounted ballots from last month's election ...
Simply astounding - thanks for the update!
Any people caught trying to help boost morale, by singing Chritmas Carols, will be investigated for making religious speech on the government highways.
Obviously George Bush's fault.
I'm going to go out on a limb and guess those roofs aren't supposed to be concaved...
HAH! YOu call that snow?!! Erie gets that much snow every day....before noon!
Saying prayers for the stranded, and their families. Lord, please provide peace and comfort to these families as they suffer through the worry for a stranded loved one. Provide rescue for those who are stuck on this highway. Surround them with a hedge of protection. In Jesus' precious Name. Amen
Nakatu X, thank you for the pings.
Blessings,
trussell
If you want on/off my prayer ping list, please let me know. All requests happily honored.
This is so unbelievable. Prayers for all those stranded.
everyone who is able should go out and drive as much as possible. Maybe if we pump out as much greenhouse gasses as we can it will warm things up
Good news!
Doesn't surprise me though.
Folks are generally friendly around this area.
Thanks for the update, we are going to wait a few more hours to see how things are before we make the decision to leave or abort.
That ain't snow. We here in Huntsville, Alabama we had over 2 feet in 1980(I think, I have a video called Storm of the Century). 55+ mile per hour winds, thunder snow(lightning and thunder while snowing), my car was completely coveved the next morning. Waves of snow went past my window all night. I mean ground waves. Explosions all night from transformers going up in smoke. I will never forget it...2 weeks later I return to work.
