Bush, Putin to Meet in Slovakia in Feb. Leaders Have Worked Together to Counter Terrorism

President Bush will meet in Slovakia in late February with Russian President Vladimir Putin as part of an expanding effort by the White House to improve relations with European nations.

A senior U.S. official said an announcement of the Feb. 24 meeting is expected on Tuesday.

I think this is a "fence-mending" meeting.

In today's news conference Bush said that we have good relations with Russia, though there are occasional disagreements.

I think Bush realizes that a US-Russia alliance can be very powerful. We rather have an alliance with Russia, than have Russia form stronger ties with China, France and Germany.

Where I wish Russia would see the light is in their relationship with Iran. I read they are planning to build a 2nd nuclear reactor in Iran.

Unfortunately, Putin is using the misusing the 'war on terrorism' to squelch democratic reforms in Russia.
