I agree that in the grand, cosmic scheme of things this is a complete non-issue. But in a situation like this where the letter is going to the family of a service member who has made the ultimate sacrifice and laid down their lives, if you aren't going to personally sign the letter then why bother sending it in the first place?

You know, I've reached the point where I wish Hagel would simply get defeated by somebody, anybody.

He's the most annoying Senator in Congress, Republican or Democrat.

Lawmakers Chide Rumsfeld for Auto-Signed Sympathy Letters

I chide the lawmakers for what they are doing to Rumsfeld. He has done nothing wrong. They are like slavering animals wanting the kill in order to make themselves look great. They make me sick !!

I think he should have personally signed those letters all along. He shouldn't get a pass on this. As for the armor issue, there's a PA serviceman who was mustered out of the army after a court martial for taking steel parts from trucks in Kuwait over to Iraq to fortify his trucks. The man had over 20 years service. His case is getting publicity and at least one Congressman is pushing for a pardon.

My point being, we can't give Rumsfield a pass on behavior that needs improvement.

Question Senator: When is the last time you sent a letter to a constituent that you personally wrote and signed?

Lessee..... I can have an administration that perjures and sends operatives out to smear and destroy people and that sells military secrets to China for campaign contributions....

....OR....

.... I can have an administration who's Secretary of State neglects to personally sign some of the 1000+ condolance letters that went out.

Wonder how many "personally" signed letters of thanks for financial donations to his latest re-election campaign were sent out......

Personally, I have now had it up to my ears with these previously GOP supporting hacks who rode the coat tails of our pres. to their own re-election bids. He was voted in, he can be replaced..............

These are the same nimrods who were chiding Bush for not visiting the wounded but were shut up when it turned out he was visiting them without the photo op.

This is nothing more than a collateral attack since Bush is teflon.

This is just to give the 9/10 armchair generals a chance to attack Bush. Republicans who are attacking, like McCain, are just posturing for 2008.

Almost every member of the House and Senate uses an incoming mail scanner. If there's a bank check inside, a staffer opens it. If no check, it goes to the garbage.

Their greedy idle asses are on the line, not Rummy's.

As of December 17th there have been 17 soldiers from Hagel's Nebraska who have been killed in action. I want to see proof that he has personally writtne (and signed) letters to each of these families.

Rumsfeld and Bush have to deal with the 1,000+ families. Hagel only had to deal with 17. Prove to me that he isn't a complete hypocrite.

How many signed letters has that sorry rat bastard Hagel sent to the families of fallen troops? (excluding fundraising letters)

I'd love to see a 'Don't be a pompous backstabbing ass' freep of Hagel's office...

This is a catastrophe! I demand that from now on he hand write a condolence letter at least 500 words, preferable with a quill pen and real ink! He will have his letter proof read by someone with at least a PHD in English. I also demand that each letter be authenticated by Price Waterhouse Cooper as being authored by Rumsfeld with a special watermark seal of the Secretary of Defense emblem. I demand that Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld hand deliver each letter to the next of kin and that he be accompanied with a twelve man marching drill team who will perform a 15 count manual of arms.

Finally, I demand that each next of kin receive a check of no less that one million dollars to compensate for the sacrifice of our fallen. Er, make that a billion! That's the ticket!

"This issue of the secretary of Defense not personally signing the letters is just astounding to me and it does reflect how out of touch they are and how dismissive they are," Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel said on CBS's "Face the Nation."
"I have no confidence in Rumsfeld," Hagel added.

SCREW YOU CHUCK HAGEL!

I swear, this guy is worse than John McLame. At LEAST McLame went out on the campaign trail and endorsed Bush. This smarmy, smug, self-indulgent Hagel runs like a lemming to any camera he can for the express purpose of ripping into his own President's administration!!

Chuck, they say you wanna run for Prez in '08. Don't even bother trying to get my vote. You're a turncoat.

You don't have to agree with Bush 100% of the time. I don't. When I disagreed, I wrote to him and told him. Bottom line? You got problems, you take them to the MAN. By running to a tattletale press, you make yourself a pantywaist. And this Recovering_Democrat will not vote for a pantywaist for President.
