Rich Draeger, spokesman for Salvation Army's Peoria division, said the timing of the donations suggest they might be an inside job. He said gold coins tend to show up when giving starts to lag, indicating it might an attempt by the charity to generate extra publicity.

Zeze, I would fire this "spokesman." True or not, what a stupid thing to say. I had to go back and read it to confirm that it was actually a Salvation Army spokesman and not some scrooge-like anti-Christian Liberal trying to spoil the fun and ruin the coins' impact.

"They're a heavy-duty Christian group, so that may go against their principals," he said.

Against their principals? How many principals serve as directors of the Salvation Army? Are they high-school principals or elementary school principals? Associated Press writer, Jan Dennis, should have realized that such questions would be asked.

That little grammatical snark aside, the Salvation Army does good work and I hope it receives contributions aplenty this Christmas season.
