...and I would be first to support it...if these other religions were behaving in the same way. Just calling yourself a religion does not (or at least should not) protect any group that conspires to kill.

I think the problem here is that we have both a religion and a fanatical cult of killers calling themselves muslim. We cannot tell them apart therefore it is going to be up to them to fix this situation. Otherwise we are going to harm innocent people trying to protect ourselves, we have no other choice.
