Florida, 2000. The vote counts had Bush up 50k. One or two Republican-leaning counties had yet to be counted. SUDDENLY there was parity.

Sorry, but it's just not true. The Lead WAS about 50,000, but any knowledgeable observer could see that the two Counties with lots of votes still out were big DEM counties in South Florida. You can complain about that, but you can't say that it was unexpected that those final votes would drive the total result close to zero.

I was watching closely election night 2000, and from about 12 PM on, I was confident it would come down to within 10,000 votes either way. Sad, but true.
