I'm reserving judgment. I find it hard to believe that all these people were doing was peacefully reading Bible verses.

Sounds like they were also blocking a highway and failing to disperse.

But I agree, there was more going on here. I'd like to hear about it from an objective source (and no, "WND" is not objective).

Agreed. I would imagine that in Mississippi persecuting peaceful Christians amounts to political suicide for a prosecutor. And try finding a jury willing to convict people for reading Bible verses in public.

Honestly speaking, is there really any objective newssource of information, anymore? I've not found anyone yet that reports without a personal agenda. Maybe I've overlooked someone.
