You have to remember that most classical music is worthless crap that people quickly forgot within a few years of it being written.
The Bachs, Mozarts, Beethovens were exceptions. That's why they're the ones remembered and played today. The majority of the dreck is so completely forgotten I couldn't even give any names.
I have little doubt that a couple hundred years from now some rock and metal will still be remembered or listened to. It's awfully hard to predict what that will be, however.

I agree with what you say. However, I think that I can speculate on the type of music that will endure 100 years from now. It will be the music that ennobles and uplifts. It will be the music that inspires. It will be the music that is recognizable and coherent (that doesn't mean dull). The screeching heavy metal sound may be fun for a while, and it may get you fired up, but that kind of thing just can't last. And the "kill the cops, f**k the hoes" variety will definitely not last.
