My point was that some people who listen to metal are different than you think. You are a snob though, so probably won't be able to acknowledge that. You think you know everything about someone by what kind of music they listen to. Music does not equal culture. You may think you are smart but you are not smart enough to understand all of the many types of people in the world.

Dimebag was certainly one of the best metal guitarists of modern times. For whatever THAT is worth. Personally, I'd much rather listen to a garden rake being dragged across a school chalkboard before listening to high level noise distortion. But that's just me.
Probably agreeing with me, however, might be REAL accomplished guitarists with some melodic insight of sorts such as, Alan Holdsworth, Neil Schon, Trevor Rabin, Robin Ford, Joe Satriani, Stevie Vai, Ingwee Malmsteen, Steve Lukather, Larry Carlton, Lee Ritnauer...just to name a few.

I do like a lot of those guitarists. Have you listened to Dimebag's playing on "Cemetary Gates?"
It's phenomenal.

You seem to think the term "bible thumper" is simply made up with no basis in fact? No. Just in the hate-filled emptiness of narrow minds.

BTW, I didn't intend to demean Dimebag's talents, per se, just my general opinion of metal, that's all.

Another ugly cultural elitist, attempting to control what is, and what is not, "true conservativism". Yup. And evidenced by some of these replies, some people don't get it along with him.
Don't like metal? Fine. But don't tell me it's not a valid music genre.

Hhmm...Dimebag at one point was praised by Satriani, Vai, and Malmsteen.

I've come to the conclusion that detractors of the metal genre are cut from the same cloth as those who were "shocked" by Elvis and "offended" by the Beatles.
Small minded folk, all of them.

Hhmm...Dimebag at one point was praised by Satriani, Vai, and MalmsteenVery interesting, to say the least. Do you have copy of that claim?
The phrase 'at one point' implies that at certain time in his musical past he had been recognized as having some formidable skills and/or chops.
I don't know Dimebag's musical history, but it would seem this praise by these upper echelon guitarists would've come at an earlier time in his career. Maybe in a 'pre-metal' venue?

You oughta send this thread to the author of the piece to show 'im the superiority of the philistinism over the elitist high culture. That'll learn 'im! (And he could compose a whole another piece out of the highly learned quotes here.)

The author of this piece sounds like an elitist ass. He is grave dancing whilst trying to convey his cultural superiority.

Look whether or not Cocaine would enhance sports performance is clearly up for debate. I don't think you can say with a straight face that it does. It might. It might also blow up your heart or leave you with heart palpitations.
My point was despite being educated and knowledgable of the elitist things in life, I need to get primal sometimes. I can't stand playing a pickup basketball game or coaching Pee Wee baseball and losing. Hard Rock does it for me.
