Gently

Because usually we are friends.

What happens to little sibs or nephews and nieces when the priest of nun dies?

The Church has so much.

i tell you true, it hurts me to see Catholic people in South America starving when there is gold on the altar in a nice parish elsewhere.

But regardless of what decide, I DO wish you a Very Merry Christmas!

The Church has so much.

It is held in trust for the Divine Inspiration of future generations.

When Mary Magdeline poured perfumed oil over Jesus, Judas admonished her. He said that the oil could be sold and the money used to feed the poor. And Jesus, in turn, admonished Judas, and said, The poor you will always have with you. I will only be here for a short time.

One must give alms to the poor as part of being a follower of Christ, but at the same time, only the best for God. Remember the Wedding at Cana.

We are still friends. (actually, I didn't see that it was you, I just assumed it was one of the normal Catholic bashers, sorry!)
You know I love ya!!!!

But while they have gold on their altars they also feed the poor. In very many places it is the religious who are the only ones who feed the poor children. The church is very rich, in fine painting and gold altars. When JPII wanted to sell them to feed the poor, everyone had a fit. The people are just as generous as many other denominations. My parish has both a church in Detroit and a church in Slovakia that we support.

As for the nieces and nephews of Priests, they are the parents' responsibility. But,when my Great-Uncle John died (Pastor of my home parish in Cleveland), my mother got money from him. I'm not sure this holds today.

This Church has artwork or gold was a thing I had to work through a bit for myself. But these items are meant to honor God and express our love for Him.

Does he need them, no. But in the same sense why does a husband buy a wife an engagement ring or does the couple have gold wedding bands? To outwardly express their love.

I do not know your situtation, but I would highly suggest that everyone that thinks this way should first act on it themselves and join the Christian Children's Fund (a VERY good agency) and do away with any extras they have like cable TV, internet access, deserts, gifts to friends or family, vacations, etc. to be donated to the poor. Because if enough people acted on it, then it would greatly help the poor.

I am not trying to be mean, but although I myself do not meet up to my own goals on this, but wanted to remind everyone that we as Christians make up the Church of Christ should act ourselves along with the effort of the Church.

What hurts me to see is evangelical, fundamentalist, and certain "cult-like" self proclaimed christian groups wasting millions of dollars building new churches when Christ's Church is already there among the people serving them.

That antique gold on the altar, placed there decades or centuries ago, pales in comparison with the money wasted by independant preachers builting temples to themselves in the same neighborhood as the Catholic Churches, for their very own cult of personality.

* How much money are you sending them to relieve their hunger?

If the gold was removed from the altar, sold, and used to buy food, the money and food would be quickly consumed depriving God honor due him and depriving generations of poor Christians the beauty of the altar to which they bring their adoration of God, their petitions, prayers of reparations, and prayers of Thanksgiving. You know, the poor themselves were happy to donate the little they had to honor God in these beautiful altars.
