HIP-HOP FLOPS

A shakeout is afoot in the world of urban apparel, as sales of once red-hot labels begin to cool, analysts and industry executives said.

The across-the-board slowdown is alarming some of the major department-store retailers that had allocated a growing amount of space to these brands on the belief that the double-digit sales growth of recent years would continue, sources said.

Federated Department Stores, which operates the Macy's and Bloomingdale's chains, for instance, is seeing recent sales of urban brands decline in the double digits, compared with year-ago levels, said one person, who added: "It has everyone worried."

Meanwhile, demand for the oversized jerseys and baggy jeans that these lines were known for dwindled, as classic looks regained popularity.

"What we had at retail," admits Ullmann, Phat Fashion's president, "was too urban."

Thought I'd throw you some support since you are getting beaten up over the Levis thing. I was once a hard core Levis wearer. But when Levis got political, I couldn't stomach their corporate activism so I switched to Wranglers. Life is better. Great fit and at a much better price. And no paying that overly inflated prices to support causes I don't believe in.

When hoodies are out of fashion, only the out-of-fashion will have hoodies!

Since I have been a really tough fit since I was 12, I really stay with what I know, which is Levi's...

The couple of pair of Wranglers that I have had haven't lasted long at all.

The Dollar Store rocks. My wife goes there all the time for her crafting/card making stuff....

Heck, I have Izod shirts I still am wearing!

I bet they're Izod LACOSTE shirts...with the crocodile, right?

(They're only "gators" at Florida State University the week of Thanksgiving, when you put a little Band-Aid diagonally across them to symbolize "hurtin' Gators!" But I digress...)

Anyway...Izod and Lacoste had a falling out somewhere along the way! I definitely liked the crocodile shirts better than the ugly crest-thing they have now.

I went to Dollar store last week then headed to Wal Mart.

Having scored on seasonal stuff at dollar store I only lasted in Wal Mart for about 5 mins....to expensive. LOL

It was "CB4,", not "UB-40." The latter was a reggae group from England.

I am 44. Took many years to get spend thrift.

Milk here is $4 a gallon, tomatoes $4 a pound. Coupons for milk and Coke passing on tomatoes.

Made 400 Doggie Cookies for Christmas for my 3 yellow Labs and other canine buddies kinda spendy and now when I say cookie I get mobbed instead of the usual ear perkand tail wag the store bought cookies get. : )

Bad news. Levi-Strauss money funds a lot of anti-gun causes. It killed me when I found out, I'd been wearing Levis for a long time, and had quite a few Dockers in the closet, as well. I don't buy them any more.

I live on the rural Oregon coast so things ost a bit more.

Milk w/coupon $2.

Beef got so dang high I eat at the local Steakhouse for my once a week fix. Homemade soup, veggies, service and grilled Steak is better than paying 10 bucks at the store for a New York cut.

You mean CB4, not the popular reggae pop band UB-40 of "Red Red Wine" fame.

There's a satirical rap movie that's even better than CB4 entitled Fear of a Black Hat.
