Populating Antarctica would be far more realistic. Of course the Mojave desert needs to be filled with subdivisions first.

The Asteroids represent serious business opportunity. Mars and the moon aren't particularly attractive in that respect. But nothing will happen outside of Tourism without property rights.

I'm with you, Mars is a relatively short term goal.

That is correct... That is why in 2005 we should start an effort to get the US out of the 67 space treaty..

What would you do on the surface of Alpha Centauri except impersonating a burned hot dog?

The moon first. Let's figure out what we're doing and get it right, on the moon, and then head off to Mars and establish permanent bases.
We'll also need hot babes in pink wigs once we get there... ;)

I wonder how they'd pray to mecca if earth was directly overhead?
Maybe no islamic will want to go into space at all.. Hard to orientate yourself with that stupid primitive belief system they have.

a life long fantasy of mine is to be sent alone into interstellar space. a destination, yes, but one the spacecraft will reach with its passenger long dead. i never even fantasize anything more roomy than a capsule. calling dr. melfi.

I much prefer much deeper space! I want to explore the universe, and not from a stupid telescope either! I want to be able to plant my family's flag on a planet and claim it for myself. Then I would have no problems with others of my own kind.

Nobody is barred and nobody will be barred, except we all are barred indirectly by the State policy of not recognizing private property rights to space resources.

im with you on the property rights. property rights and right to self medicate are the two most elemental rights there are, imo. but i mean .. birds of a feather flock together. a new planet home is a good place to not overlook that fact.
