The Washington Times notes that Hillary Clinton is positioning herself to the right of President Bush on immigration, in preparation for a 2008 presidential run:
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is staking out a position on illegal immigration that is more conservative than President Bush, a strategy that supporters and detractors alike see as a way for the New York Democrat to shake the "liberal" label and appeal to traditionally Republican states. In an interview last month on Fox News, Mrs. Clinton said she does not "think that we have protected our borders or our ports or provided our first responders with the resources they need, so we can do more and we can do better."
In an interview on WABC radio, she said: "I am, you know, adamantly against illegal immigrants."
Unlike many pro-business Republicans, Mrs. Clinton also has castigated Americans for hiring illegal aliens.
It's interesting that she apparently doesn't believe that going conservative on immigration will hurt her among Democratic primary voters--another indication that immigration reform is a bipartisan issue. Looking toward the general election, assuming Hillary were to win the nomination, her opponent, obviously, won't be President Bush. So being to his right on immigration is of limited relevance.
As we've said before, a large majority of Americans wants immigration reform. The main reason we haven't seen it so far is that both parties have been willing to ignore the will of the majority. Once that monopoly is broken--again, assuming Hillary is the nominee--it's hard to imagine that the Republican candidate won't likewise take a more conservative position on immigratiion. Which could, perhaps, lead to real reform at last.
One more thought: Hillary's relatively conservative stand on immigration is part and parcel of her relatively conservative view (for a Democrat) of the war on terror. She is betting, I think, that in 2008 security will be as pivotal an issue with voters as it is now. If the Bush administration is as successful over the next four years in preventing terrorist attacks as it has been for the last three, that may or may not prove to be true.
So we are to beleive that Mz Socialized medicine herself is going to put a stop to medical and welfare handouts to these non citizens?
Hillary's using the "illegal immigrant" lingo instead of the pc term, "migrant worker."
She's a crafty one, looking for anyway to change her image.
Image is illusion, and she knows it.
Under that crusty exterior, she'll always be Hitlery.
If Dubya can convince Jeb to run in `08, that's another sure win, I think.
Locks up Florida (where Jeb has a high approval rating), and that means the Dems have to run the table in the upper Midwest. Build up a good ground game in Ohio, and Jeb would probably win while holding all of the `04 states.
Your last sentence says it all on how naive you are.
Plus are you going to beleive a person who helped get Puerto Rican terrorists pardoned.
It is amazing what a tiny bit of pandering can cloud the brains of some on FR.
Hillary is probably laughing her arse off saying, "Those rubes are falling for it again".
Hillary whispering sweet nothings to you may take it away for you, Biker, but those who learn from history are doomed to repeat it(Clinton's reneging on middle class tax cut and being tough on China in 92).
Would you like to buy a bridge Biker? Your marketing profile suggests that you are an impulse buyer(i.e buys on superficiality and not on research).

Bingo. You've found Hillary Clintons motivation!!
She's frantic to get President Bush to follow her scent.
She must have him react, in order to slip back into a
position of power. Even out of office, this is her way to
be IN power.
So far, President Bush has been immune to her mating call.
The Leftists hate Bush for this, they want their darling
Clintons to still call the shots, to be able to make the
the Bush Administration jump. But it hasn't worked...yet.
President Bush has to be motivated to do what is right
for the future of America, no matter what that might be.
It would be a tragic political mistake to EVER allow
Hillary Do-Harm Rodham call the shots.
I recall one case that Clinton was totally hoodwinked on and she continued to defend the illegal's actions.Anyone remember in 1997 the Ghanian "princess" that entered the US illegally and claimed asylum as a potential victim of female genital multilation (she would be forced to have FGM if tribal elders discovered she had premarital sex.)
Clinton, along with Julia Roberts, Charles Schumer and various women's groups castigated INS for attempting to deport her and daring to detain her - she was an asylum applicant, for gosh sakes - anything she said MUST be the truth!
Then gee, it came to light that this "princess" was a total fraud who committed identity fraud, stole the identity of the real Adelaide Abankwah, and lied about her entire story to try and get asylum. She actually came from a region that did not practice FGM - all a total fraud. Clinton even opposed pursuing her deportation once her fraud was exposed, and continued to support her.
I agree. Hillary knows what she is doing. It should be interesting to watch.
Aaaaah Dane, always the one to jump to conclusions.
Where did I ever say that I bought her line? Nowhere. What I said was that Bush and the GOP could be left in the dust.
You, of course, instead try to imply that I'm drinking the tea she's serving.
I am not, but I assure you that there will be millions that will.

Yawn, this isn't 92 where the internet was in it's infancy, and your praise for her obvious cynical pandering to you can be easily refuted by her previous actions.
Bush could counter this by insisting that illegal aliens be required to join a labor union.
1. Unions would love it.
2. Businesses would no longer hire illegals
3. The incentive for crossing the border would therfore dry up
She's had eight years as co-president. Her need for another 'fix' can't be understated. Most importantly is the First Woman President in History (remember the title of her book?) achievement. Imagine having your name up there with Washington and Lincoln as most easily recognized in history?
If taking on illegal immigration is what it takes to get in, she'll do it. Crusty chameleon cruising to crush conservatives.
Deeds not words determine a person's position. Hillary has not done anything about backing up her words with deeds. She probably won't but if she does she will be ahead of those who do nothing or obstruct efforts to control immigration. If you know of anything the present administration has done or is planning to do to stop illegal immigration please let me know. I'd consider it a positive move if they just didn't put obstacles in the way of those who want to do something.
Do you always speak in circles or just when you've been drinking?
And once again Dane I havt to point out to you, since you apparently aren't smart enough to figure it out yourself, that I am pointing out that she will find lot's of followers if she takes up this torch.
While I will not be among them it will not surprise me one bit that she will get many crossovers. Most notably our current security moms, which is all it would take for her to win.
... and while achieving all of this she had a small child to bing up. How do we know that all the members of her "village" were here legally ? And if they were on Arkansas's payroll and were babysitting, we need to know.
About 1/3 of this website would vote for Hillary as long as she promised them what they wanted to here on immigration.
