Here's something for broadband people that will really speed Firefox up:
1.Type "about:config" into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining network.http.proxy.pipelining network.http.pipelining.maxrequests
Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.
2. Alter the entries as follows:
Set "network.http.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.proxy.pipelining" to "true"
Set "network.http.pipelining.maxrequests" to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.
3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it "nglayout.initialpaint.delay" and set its value to "0". This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it recieves.
If you're using a broadband connection you'll load pages MUCH faster now!
What about those of us who are forced to use dial up?
Please add me to the firefox hint ping list
This works on Mozilla 1.7.3 too. Maybe Mozilla should be added to the title? I don't know.
I just made those changes.... seems faster but must try on other sites. Thanks.
I have no way of knowing, I've only used Firefox on DSL. In all reality, on dialup any speed changes are minimal and not very easy to notice. Unless you have poor line quality, and it gets repaired.
Impressive. Simply impressive.
Yes, the major difference I saw was on sites with lots of images and frames.
Just damn.
If you want on the list, FReepmail me. This IS a high-volume PING list...
Too bad it doesn't speed up a slow server on the other end.
Thanks.
No Automatic Adjustment of Print Size. In IE, increasing the size of a Web page on the screen also increases the size of the page's text when you print it out great for those with failing vision. Firefox, however, prints every page at the same magnification, no matter how large you make the type on your screen. To adjust the text size on the printout, you'll need to use the File, Page Setup dialog box. Or you can click File, Print Preview, and use the Scale widget to adjust the printed text size in real time until you're happy.

I tried the above and it works. Go to print preview and adjust the scale widget like the man says
BTTT
Problem is: I'm perpetually stuck on dialup.
Wow it really works.
Try File -> View -> Text Size -> Increase, and then print.
Add me please.
"File, Print Preview, and use the Scale widget"
This way works more logically that his first way of adjusting FireFox printout text size.
Use Logitech's Mouseware software to configure the buttons.
Hehe no helping that from the client side. :)
